"GET TO KNOW" Series

With things still a little crazy & negative around the world, this series of interviews aims to give you 10 minutes of light hearted reading whilst you take a breath during your day.

So first up in the series...…..

Ever wondered what a Firefighter might eat for breakfast? Or what they do to make sure they look after their mental health?

Well today is your lucky day! I'm lucky enough to call this guy one of my best friends & of course he wasn't allowed to say no when I asked him to take part in this!

Dislikes.....Bananas & Seafood?! Ok, maybe it's time to reconsider our friendship!

When it comes to Marmite, he falls into the "hate it" group of people and thinks pineapple should never belong on a pizza

What does a firefighter cook up for a nutritious meal when they're short on time? A meal rich in Riboflavin, Selenium, Vitamin B12 & Phosphorus, and not forgetting a good amount of satiating protein...…. Poached Eggs On Toast

When he has time to cook his favourite meal, he opts for either fajitas or steak....Mmm

A typical food day in the life of a firefighter? Well that depends on whether he's at work or on one of his well deserved days off.

Breakfast usually consists of poached eggs on toast at around 10am, both at work & at home

Lunch, sandwiches with a yoghurt & getting some of his daily fruit intake in sometime between 1pm-2pm.

Dinner could be anything he fancies cooking when at home or if he's at the station, it might be a takeaway around 10pm. At least the takeaway restaurant doesn't have to worry about setting on fire!

Nutrition isn't just about the food we eat, it's also our physical & mental health to name just two other contributors.

His Top Tips For Keeping Up Good Mental Health During Lockdown And Beyond & Favourite Ways To Stay Active...

"Exercise to get you out and about-helps to clear the mind. Talking to and seeing friends as well, keep yourself interacting with others"

Going for walks & heading to the gym to keep pushing himself and to help with his work as a Firefighter

And finally....

I think it's safe to say that we all could do with some positivity in our life at the moment & it's important to remember just how much you've achieved even in tough times, so the final question I put to him was,

What is something positive you’ve achieved so far this year & something you are looking forward to?

Passing my 12-month assessment with work was a huge achievement for myself; and I am looking forward to doing my LGV driving course with work.

IMPORTANT NOTE

I have it on good authority that all firefighters love cake

so if you're looking to do a good deed, why not take a few cakes along to your local fire station & show your appreciation for their hard work in keeping us all safe.

Thanks to Bryn for agreeing to take part & thank you for reading. Look out for the second instalment in this series coming soon!
