Hay Fever Relief Through Nutrition

Updated: Jun 17, 2021

Are you one of the millions of people who suffer when the hay fever season comes around? As well as trying out the wide range of products available why not try incorporating the following foods into your diet- They are all natural antihistamines.

Sweet Potatoes

A source of fermentable fibre which when broken down produces short chain fatty acids which in turn help to raise your T-cell count, minimising the effects of hay fever due to the suppression of your immune systems response.

Anti-Inflammatory Foods

Leafy Greens, Oily Fish & Berries all have anti-inflammatory properties so make sure you are including these in your diet each week.

Another natural anti inflammatory is Curcumin, the compound found in Turmeric (Yep I'm on about one of my favourite subjects again!). It can help to ease nasal congestion & nasal symptoms associated with hay fever but be mindful that when including turmeric in your food by using the spice, curcumin levels are quite low so it's a good idea to take a look at and invest in a turmeric supplement to ensure you receive a good level.

Supplements I recommend are:

The Turmeric Co Turmeric Shots (The best around) www.theturmeric.co

Your Bodhi Curcumin Capsules www.yourbodhi.co.uk

(If you'd like to try any of these out for yourself, I can provide you with a discount code for each one)

Vitamin C Rich Foods

Broccoli, Kale, Kiwis & Oranges are just some of the fruits & vegetables you can include in your diet to help boost your defences against hay fever as well as helping to calm your reaction.

Try to ensure you are getting at least 5 portions of fruits & vegetables within your meals each day but if this is something which you seriously struggle with, it might be worth looking into a vitamin c supplement this spring/summer

Pineapple

This seriously cool character above contains an enzyme called Bromelain which can naturally help to ease swelling & inflammation in the sinuses.

So chop some into your fruit salad & chuck some into your summer smoothies!

Quercetin

A flavonoid (plant pigment) found in good quantities in foods such as red onion & kale, green & black tea as well as apples. A natural antihistamine & anti inflammatory, it can also be taken as a supplement alongside your diet.
